Who We Are
“Owning this shop started with a conversation at a bike race…” - Matt Holloway, owner
Originally from California, Matt started racing BMX bikes in Antelope Valley at age 8. He continued to race BMX, but added Mountain Biking and Duathlon to his racing list along the way. Matt has worked at various bike shops - tearing down and building up bikes of all types. He studied Exercise Physiology at Humboldt State University in Northern California. After college, he moved to the Bay Area and continued to train, race, and teach basic maintenance classes while developing a career at the YMCA. A job opportunity with REI renewed his passion for cycling and being part of the cycling industry. Matt moved to the East Coast after his daughter Mallory was born and continued to work for REI and Eastern Mountain Sports cycling. One day at a bike race, he struck up a deal with the previous owner of Henry’s. As his wife Katrina will tell customers with a smile, “he left for a race and came back with a bike shop.” Henry’s is a full service shop and Matt oversees everything - selecting quality bikes and gear from great vendors and hiring knowledgeable mechanics and sales staff. While sales and service are a priority, Matt also strives to give the shop a community-oriented feel - a place where customers are comfortable and not intimidated. There are maintenance classes, Women’s Only rides, Happy Hour Fridays and even music at the shop Monthly. Matt, his employees, and the Henry’s Bicycle Team also give back to the community by trail building, volunteering, holding a spin-a-thon each year to raise funds for Cystic Fibrosis research. |
Our History
Henry's has been in Delaware since 1946. It opened up in downtown Wilmington, then moved up to Lancaster Pike, then to Limestone Road in the Pike Creek area and now to its current location in Newark. The shop has sold numerous brands and types of bicycles as well as novelties, and skateboards. Henry's has always focused on being a local, community centered bike shop and that tradition continues today with its new owners and location.
